High Definition Multimedia Interface or HDMI, as it is popularly known as, is the latest innovation in television technology. But HDMI technology involves an all digital signal transmission and requires no conversion. Thus HDMI provides loss-less transmission and ensures better picture quality than the analog technologies. Also HDMI has authentication features which prevent people from tapping the cables and pirate the data. Also the digital signals transmitted are stored and viewed without any tampering in the original data. The HD signals are not compressed so they prevent deterioration of signal quality and it can render close to one billion colours with excellent depth. HDMI also supports dolby thus ensuring superior audio quality.
There are certain disadvantages too in this technology. The Cat1 HDMI cable can cover a maximum distance of 35 metres and beyond that distance they need extenders. On occasions blank screens occur due to delay in authentication process and of course HDMI cables are very expensive.
What does a HDMI adapter do?
For devices which come with HDMI port then connectivity is a simple process of connecting the cables. HDMI adapter is a device that aids users customize connectivity beyond cables. Small, portable electronic devices have very small HDMI ports and you need a HDMI adapter for connectivity.
